MTA Staten Island Railway 426 (ME-2/R-44S) Wye By St. George, Staten Island, New York

Waiting Nine Innings. On the evening of Wednesday, July 29, 2009, a four-car train of ME-2/R44S cars sat on the wye track between St. George and Ballpark Stations with the Verrazzano Bridge in the background. At the time, the MTA Staten Island Railway (SIR) operated Ballpark Specials to and from Staten Island Yankee Stadium before and after each game, serving a platform that was only used on game days. During the game, the entrance was locked, and the train would stage here to await the end of the game. On this night, the SI Yanks emerged victorious, 6–3, over the Oneonta Tigers. In the present day, the tracks in this area are covered by the Empire Outlets Shopping Mall.
