Wanamie Mine Railroad 9, Ashley, Pennsylvania
Lokie. Wanamie Mine Railroad 0-4-0T locomotive 9 (Vulcan Iron Works, 1915) was brought to Miners' Memorial Park in Ashley, Pennsylvania on the former site of the Blue Coal’s Huber Breaker in 2020 through the efforts of local preservationists. Originally built for the Delaware Lackawanna and Western Coal Mining Department 28 at Loomis, it came to Wanamie after being rebuilt in 1948. These 3-foot gauge engines are called "lokies"because of their diminutive size and were used to shuttle trains of coal cars around the breakers and coal works. In 1969 when the operation ceased, the locomotive was moved to Pine Creek, New Jersey, then later to Oregon and Michigan before coming home to PA, where it was sitting on the night of April 17, 2021.
