The Nominal Return Of The H. A sharp winter sun was shining as Budd R-32 3591 led a 4-car set through the Beach 44 St-Frank Avenue Station in Edgemere, Queens, New York on the afternoon of November 23, 2012. After the damage of Hurricane Sandy, the MTA NYCT Subway operated a shuttle service on the Rockaway Peninsula and provided shuttle buses to cross Jamaica Bay while making repairs to the bridges and tracks. At that time, the "H" was the designation for the extended shuttle instead of the "S" that is used for regular Broad Channel to Rockaway Park service. After a weekend of full rail service suspension starting on the night of January 17, 2025, on January 20, NYCT will operate a shuttle serving all of the stations between Far Rockaway and Rockaway Park for 17 weeks while various upgrades and repairs are performed. The unusual routing will give passengers the opportunity to the normally non-revenue portion of Hammels Wye, a piece of track that connects the two terminal and bypasses the Broad Channel Station.
