"Valley Railroad Announces Conversion of Steam Locomotive 3025 to Oil Firing. During the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)-mandated 1,472-day inspection, Valley Railroad is converting steam locomotive 3025 from coal to oil firing. Because the locomotive must be fully disassembled to complete this required inspection, the inspection period provides an optimum opportunity to remove the existing coal-firing equipment and fabricate and install the components necessary for oil firing while the locomotive is already out of service."

Survivor. On December 22, 2019, VALE 3025 (ex-Knox and Kane Railroad [KKRR] 1658, 2-8-2, Tangshan Locomotive, 1989, SY158M) was leading one of three "North Pole Express" trains operating for the Christmas Season. This locomotive had operated for KKRR, running over the Kinzua Bridge before its collapse. It was in storage after the railroad ceased operations when it was damaged by an arson fire. "The Valley" purchased the locomotive at auction, completely restored it, and it has run since 2011. Sister SY locomotive NYSW 141 (SY 1698M) sank in a typhoon while being shipped from China, and was replaced by NYSW 142 (SY 1647), which today operates on the Belvedere and Delaware Railroad in New Jersey.
