Corridor View On The Hudson Line For The First Time. On Monday, April 6, 2026, Amtrak Train 49 (Lake Shore Limited) was tasked with bringing a group of Amtrak Inspection cars from New York, NY to Chicago, IL, seen here passing through the MTA Metro-North Railroad Riverdale Station. The train, which was led by AMTK 713 (P32AC-DM) and AMTK 117 (P42DC), had been turned at some point since arriving the previous evening with a 7-car consist, not the normal operating practice at present. This allowed for the Amtrak Inspection Cars to be added to the rear for the duration of the trip. The “Corridor View” is the newest member of the Inspection Car fleet. Built as one of three prototype Viewliners by Budd that were finished at Amtrak’s Beech Grove Shops in 1987, this car was originally AMTK 2300, Viewliner Sleeper. It was later moved to Bear, Delaware, where it was used to evaluate interior concepts, and was recently released in Phase VII paint as 10006 “Corridor View” with geometry equipment. The other two prototype Viewliners are AMTK 8400 (Diner, “Indianapolis”), which was placed into storage within the past several years, and AMTK 2301 (Sleeper), which was used as a sleeper before being rebuilt as AMTK 10004 “American View” (Inspection Car).
