Farewell To The Jersey Boys. As NJ Transit has begun the process of scrapping the ALP-44s in recent weeks, it was a good time to look back at their operating career. On December 27, 2009, NJTR ALP-44 4424 was leading a southbound train from New York Penn Station, seen approaching the Secaucus Junction station in Secaucus, New Jersey. Except for one that was given to SEPTA to settle a lawsuit against manufacturer ABB, New Jersey Transit was the only customer for this model in the United States, which was its first new electric locomotive purchase. The final NJT ALP-44 was retired in 2011, and many had been stored near Port Morris, New Jersey. This unit, which was held at the Meadows Maintenance Complex, has been donated to the United Railroad Historical Society of New Jersey and can be seen at their Boonton, New Jersey, location when it is open to the public.
