18 Years Ago Today.....Two-Tone Blue M.
During a tour of the MTA Staten Island Railway Clifton Shop, the group had the opportunity to see the R-44S fleet in its native home. In addition to the 52 SIR R-44S/ME-2 cars were the 12 R-44s from MTA NYCT Subway that were transferred to Staten Island.
Although without its blue stripe, 394 looks a lot more like when it was delivered than the R-44s that were left behind. It retains its original number, and the numberboard is in the black on silver style that had been replaced by white on black for the rest of the fleet. And then there is the classic two-tone blue M, which survived on SIR far longer than the rest of the system.
